My ex used Alexa to stalk me before threatening to acid attack me – I’m scared of seeing him, woman tells court
A STALKER used Alexa to listen in on his ex before threatening to stab her new boyfriend and throw acid in her face, a court heard.
Hassan Mehmet, 35, harassed Shelby Laidlaw and warned he would pull her teeth out after he deliberately crashed her Jaguar in a motorway suicide attempt.
The couple had been in a relationship for 13 years before it ended in April.
That month, Mehmet was arrested for coercive and controlling behaviour and domestic common assault after it was alleged that he bit Ms Laidlaw on her head.
He was released on police bail but then embarked on his campaign of harassment.
Ms Laidlaw became aware he was using the Alexa to listen in on her at her home address.

He was also watching her and sending messages saying he had seen her driving away from her home.
On April 21, Ms Laidlaw allowed Mehmet to accompany her on a hospital visit.
But in the car afterwards, he threatened to use a knife on one of her male friends.
The next day he went to her house and threatened to throw acid in her face, then drove off in her car.

He got a puncture on the M20 but continued to drive at speed before deliberately crashing it.
He told police he was trying to hurt himself because of the breakdown of the relationship.
After Mehmet’s discharge from hospital, he threatened to stab Ms Laidlaw and pay someone to beat up her boyfriend.
He was eventually arrested and remanded in July.
In a hearing at the Old Bailey, Mehmet’s defence said he was “very, very, very unwell” at the time, suffering from emotional unstable personality disorder.
Mehmet, of Southwark, South East London, admitted stalking and driving offences.
He will reappear at the Old Bailey tomorrow for sentencing.
Judge Philip Katz said: “It didn’t, luckily, go any further than what he did. We could easily be dealing here with a case of murder.”
In an impact statement read to the court, Ms Laidlaw wrote: “I’m scared of ever seeing him again as I feel he has no regard for authority.”

Mehmet has 29 convictions for 36 previous offences committed between 2001 and 2017.
They include robbery, affray, burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, criminal damage, theft and handling stolen goods.
