Gary Lineker forgets that we’re not racist – we just don’t like being conned

KINDLY Alf Dubs must be appalled at the sight of hairy-armed men hijacking his campaign to save children from the rat-hole we call the Calais Jungle.

It was the well-intentioned Labour peer who forced this year’s change in immigration laws to allow hundreds of unaccompanied refugee boys and girls into Britain.

But he will be even more horrified by charity chief Clare Moseley’s comparison of Calais with Nazi death camps.

“I would not want to trivialise what happened to the Jews because it was so awful,” chirps Clare. “But there are parallels that can be drawn.”

No there aren’t. There are no living skeletons in Calais. There is no smell of burning flesh. Nobody forced migrants into The Jungle at bayonet-point. The showers dispense hot water, not lethal gas.

Clare Moseley might like to pay a visit to Auschwitz and see what a Nazi death camp really looks like.

Perhaps Lord Dubs would show her around.

Nobody knows better about a child’s terror as he flees persecution. As a six-year-old, Alf was one of 669 children who fled Nazi- occupied Czechoslovakia and escaped the Holocaust.

All his friends died in concentration camps.

Now as Lord Dubs, 84, he might be happy to see ANY migrant making a new life here, even stubbly men in their thirties masquerading as kids. But he will surely be dismayed that scores of adults — invariably male — are trampling over the life chances of vulnerable youngsters like he once was.

Generous Brits will help anyone in need, especially desperate kids with no family. They just don’t like being taken for a ride — or worse, being accused of “racism” by the likes of Gary Lineker when they cry foul.

Home Office figures show two out of three of those required to complete an age assessment after a dispute are lying about their age. The process is a sick joke, with cartoonists capturing the image of migrants on zimmer frames going for dental checks, their false teeth in a jar.

The abysmal failure of the Border Force and immigration authorities to sort this out is stoking anger over the abuse of our hospitality.

It has not been helped by attempts to hide the faces of these so-called children behind hoodies, blankets and specially-erected screens. Most migrants have destroyed their passports and other age-revealing ID.

DNA swabs and dental age checks are ruled out as “intrusive”, even though other EU countries use them.

MPs are up in arms, calling for an “urgent inquiry” into the long-predicted shambles. On past performance it will get them nowhere. Despite David Cameron’s promises, immigration is still out of control.

James Hanratty, ex-president of the Council for Immigration Judges, says: “We can’t keep them out and we can’t send them home.

“Forty thousand were denied permission to remain in this country last year alone.

“The devastating truth is the vast majority are still here.”

As Home Secretary and now as Prime Minister Theresa May insists immigration must be cut to the “tens

of thousands”.

She also expresses her loathing of modern slavery.

Hanratty warns the Calais crisis is merely the visible tip of a giant criminal underworld seething under our noses.

“Migration is overshadowed not just by human suffering, but by organised crime, fear and deception,” he says.

“There is a huge industry of people-smugglers and bent legal advisers.”

Human life means zero to money-hungry thugs who lock pitiful families below decks on leaky boats.

Britain is now home to more than four million newcomers, legal and illegal.

Today, as French bulldozers flatten The Jungle amid demos by pro-immigration activists — many of them British middle- class whites — there will be demands for Britain to open its doors still wider.

Protesters insist there should be no borders at all. Many on the Labour left agree, including Jeremy Corbyn.

But millions think otherwise. They will play their part in humanitarian aid, especially for children.

But they do not believe we should simply take in the countless thousands who have made Britain their destination of choice.

That’s one reason why they voted for Brexit.

And it’s why they expect Theresa May to regain control over our borders . . . as promised.

-This piece, originally published on October 24, stated that Home Office figures show two out of three migrants seeking to get into Britain from Calais are lying about their age. In fact the figures of 'two out of three' refers to migrants required to complete an age assessment after an age dispute. We have amended it and are happy to make this clear.

KELVIN'S CHANNEL $ BATTLE

CHANNEL 4’s Fatima Manji made a fool of herself by accusing my old editor Kelvin MacKenzie of discrimination after she wore a hijab to report the Islamist truck massacre in Nice.

Nobody seeing her in full Muslim headdress could doubt it was provocative of Channel 4.

Absurdly, Ms Manji claims she was “singled out personally by Kelvin MacKenzie because of my religion”. In fact she singled herself out by dressing as she did.

As she told the BBC: “I do wear the headscarf as a symbol of my religious faith.”

She knew precisely what she was doing.
