Nicola Sturgeon blasts Theresa May after tense meeting about Brexit in Downing Street

Leaders of the devolved countries have been left 'no clearer' about how the Government will pull Britain out of the EU

A FRESH Brexit row has erupted after Theresa May accused Scotland boss Nicola Sturgeon of “undermining” Britain’s EU negotiation.

No10 slapped down the Scots’ First Minister for trying to strike her own exit deal with Europe.

The PM also left Ms Sturgeon irate by ruling out her proposal for a ‘flexible Brexit’ for different parts of the country.

Under it, pro-Remain areas such as London and Scotland – which voted Remain by 62% to 38% - could stay inside the single market while areas that voted to leave would see a cleaner break.

But Downing Street insisted the country will leave the EU “as one UK with a single UK position” to keep the country united.

The PM’s official spokeswoman added: “We expect representatives of the devolved administrations to act in that way and to in no way undermine the UK’s position”.

The row erupted after a meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee of the PM, Ms Sturgeon, Wales’s Carwyn Jones and Northern Ireland’s Arlene Foster and Martin McGuinness.

The two hour session was meant as a bid to plan a Brexit that works for every area of the country, but it ended with tensions between London and Edinburgh soaring.

Hitting back at Mrs May, SNP leader Ms Sturgeon branded her attack as “nonsense”, adding: “To be brutally frank about it, you can’t undermine something that doesn’t exist.

“From everything I have heard today in Downing Street, there isn’t yet a UK Government negotiating position.”

Wales’s First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones also said there is still “huge uncertainty” about Brexit, adding: “Time is not on our side”.

Later in the Commons, Mrs May rounded on Labour MPs for “weaselling around” to try to stop Brexit.

Veteran leftie Paul Flynn accused her of a “little England myopia” that will lead to the break up of the UK.

But the PM told him: “The UK voted to leave the EU. He and others can try all they like to find ways to weasel round that decision.

“The British people spoke. They chose, we now will do it.”

Nicola Sturgeon tries to out-shoe the PM with crocodile-skin stilettoes

Nicola Sturgeon has made the war of words with Theresa May over Brexit even more personal by taking her on in the shoe stakes.

While the Prime Minister is famed for her leopard print kitten heels, Scotland’s First Minister is proving she can bite back – with ‘crocodile-skin’ stilettos.

She has been slapped down several times since the Brexit vote for pushing for a second Scottish independence referendum.

Mrs May has in the past said Nicola Sturgeon must respect the “once in a generation vote”.

And today it looked as if Ms Sturgeon was taking her on in the political shoes stakes by wearing the bluey-green footwear for the Brexit meeting.
