A NETWORK of concealed underground tunnels with a disturbing secret lie abandoned and overgrown in the woods.
Hidden deep in the woods of northern Lincolnshire in the village of Stallingborough is a fascinating glimpse back in time.
Following decades of abandonment here lies the lost remains of one of only six surviving 5.25-inch heavy anti-aircraft sites known nationally, offering a fantastic insight into Grimsby's wartime history.
The former heavy anti-aircraft battery became redundant over half a century ago, and although it has become somewhat overgrown is still clearly visible.
These batteries usually consisted of an emplacement for guns designed to specifically target aircraft and this site is thought to be one of the rarest, most advanced and most significant World War Two gun sites left in the country.
Urban explorer Lost Places & Forgotten Faces visited the monument to see for himself this eerie reminder of Grimsby's wartime past and posted the photos to his Facebook page.
The site is located within the woods off Keelby Road in Sallingborough.
It was decommissioned around 1955, and as the photos show is very much overgrown, with its concrete structure showing signs of significant deterioration.
