Dom, famed for hidden-camera practical jokes on his show, was later released at Reading station without charge and allowed to continue his trip home.

His spokeswoman said: “He has no idea where this folded-up note came from.

“It’s bizarre that it ended up in his pocket and had all this powder in it. It was very unfortunate.

“Dom is a respectable family man and it was very embarrassing for him.”

She said: “After the search, the police talked to him about where he’d got the note. They realised it was a misunderstanding.”

Dom, 48, who is renowned for his giant mobile phone gags, said last night: “Let’s be absolutely clear, the police confirmed the contamination on the note was not from me.”

The funnyman, from Cheltenham, said: “I’d only just obtained the note in London. I agreed to a search and the police found nothing.”

British Transport Police said yesterday: “Officers were called by staff on a Great Western train at Reading to reports of a male who had tried to pay for a ticket with a £10 note which had white powder on it.

“Officers detained the male and conducted a Section 23 drug search but nothing untoward was found and he was allowed to go on his way. No arrests were made.”

A Great Western spokesman said last night: “We will continue to work with the BTP to maintain the security of our trains and station environments.”
