MOULDY KID'S CUP

Disgusted mum claims she bought a Mothercare toddler’s beaker covered in MOULD

Jessica Walker's daughter has been using the cup for the past three months and she noticed the mould a few days ago

A MUM has blasted Mothercare for failing to recall a children's beaker after she claimed to have discovered mould in one her daughter had been drinking from.

Jessica Walker, 25, bought the beaker from a store in Rotherham about six months ago and placed it in a cupboard until Aimee needed it.

The toddler started using the pink cup three months ago but a few days ago, Jessica was pouring in a drink for her daughter when she noticed the teat was 'gungy' which she later identified as mould.

Jessica, from Sheffield, told Sun Online: "It was disgusting.

"I was worried about Aimee getting ill from it as she had been suffering from a lot of tummy bugs in the last few weeks which I had just put down to bad weather.

"I took her to the doctors, who said her upset tummy was not necessarily linked to the mould but advised I stopped using the cup right away."

Jessica emailed Mothercare's customer service team to inform them about the incident and received a £5 voucher and an apology in return.

However Jessica said she was surprised the store did not do any more.

She added: "Basically in a nutshell they said here is £5 and that's it.

"They didn't mention looking into the product, they didn't want to see it, nothing.

"It's weird."

Jessica replied to Mothercare: "Wow. A £5 evoucher after my daughter has been drinking out of a mouldy cup. Well done mothercare."

In response, the store said: "I am very sorry to hear you feel this way about the voucher.

"I have forwarded your comment to our feedback department so your comments can be taken into consideration when assessing how to improve our services for our customers.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us as we are always happy to help."

Responding to the incident, a spokesperson for Mothercare told The Sun: "We were disappointed to hear of Ms Walker’s experience having used the cup for three  months.

"We do know that this was an isolated incident, but sympathised with her concerns and so in good faith, we refunded the cost of the cup."
