The Queen welcomes Colombian president to Britain with painful-looking bloodshot eye

THE Queen looks like she needs some shut eye for her red eye on a State visit yesterday.

Her Maj had a blood-shot eye as she welcomed Colombia's president Juan Manuel Santos and his wife Maria to the UK with an official ceremony on Horse Guards Parade.

The president and his wife are staying at Buckingham Palace for two days as Britain signalled its support to the end of civil war in the South American country.

It is the first time a state visit to the UK has been carried out by a Colombian president and comes after Mr Santos was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end one of the world's longest-running civil wars.

Last night a state banquet was held in his honour, attended by the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
