Polar bear mauls boy and a woman to death after rampage through Alaska village before another resident shot it dead

A WOMAN and child have died after being savaged by a polar bear.
The beast started chasing people in a remote village in Alaska before it was shot dead by a local resident.
Emergency services received a report about the attack in Wales at about 2.30pm on Tuesday.
A state troopers spokesman said: "Initial reports indicate that a polar bear had entered the community and had chased multiple residents.
"The bear fatally attacked an adult female and juvenile male."
The polar bear was shot and killed by another resident as it attacked the woman and boy.
Authorities have not yet identified the two victims. It is not clear whether they were related.
Officials from the state Department of Fish and Game are due to travel to the village when the weather is less severe.
Wales is a predominantly Inupiaq village that is home to fewer than 150 people, according to local media.
The village is located on western edge of the Seward Peninsula approximately 100 miles northwest of Nome.
Male polar bears can weigh up to 1,200lbs and females up to 700lbs.
They have no natural predators beyond humans.
Deadly attacks on humans are extremely rare.
A man was killed in 1990 by a polar bear that showed signs of starvation in the North Slope village of Point Lay.
And in 1993, a bear came through the window of an Air Force radar station and mauled a 55-year-old mechanic, who survived despite serious injuries.
