A WOMAN who believed she was Madeleine McCann faces "nagging questions" after a DNA test proved she was not the missing Brit, a friend has claimed.
In recent months Julia Wandelt, 21, took to social media claiming she was the missing girl.
DNA test results released today revealed the woman is not Maddie, but a private detective working close to her said she's still lacking answers.
Dr Fia Johansson said a "simple DNA test" by the 21-year-old's parents - and the McCanns - could have helped her discover more about her alleged unknown past.
Questions over the young woman's future now hang in the balance, with it unclear if she will pursue another DNA test to compare with the McCann's.
Julia claimed she had similar facial features to missing Maddie, and suffered an abusive childhood, therefore she started to question her parentage.

Dr Johansson got involved after seeing the woman getting "hate" online, and flew her from Poland to Los Angeles.
She then arranged for Julia to give samples in the US for detailed DNA tests - including a DNA test similar to a 23andMe test, which has established her ancestry.
The results were made public this morning, with a statement from the private detective quickly being released in the hours that followed.
It was revealed that Julia, who also goes by the surnames Wendell and , is not Maddie, who vanished from her family's Portuguese holiday flat in 2007.

Dr Johansson wrote on Instagram: "We finally know the reality.
"Although it is impossible to tell for sure without the parents DNA results on either side, the test results speak to the origins of Julia's root."
She explained that the results showed the 21-year-old is from Poland, with some Lithuanian and Romanian heritage.
Dr Johansson wrote: "The DNA test results did not show any connection to British or even German roots.
"This story is much more complicated than a simple girl from a small town in Poland making a claim to get attention.
"She truly believed what she was saying, and with so many questions about her childhood it is easy to understand where she was coming from.
"What is amazing is parent's refusal to resolve this nagging question for Julia. A simple DNA test by parents would have resolved many questions for Julia.
"In any case, upon the revelation, she decided to be back with her dad. I personally wish her well."
Julia requested DNA testing after saying she believed she was Madeleine, and wanted to get into contact with Kate and Gerry McCann.
However, her DNA was not compared to the McCanns'.
