BBC Breakfast presenter Victoria Fritz gives birth after her waters broke while reading news on live TV – and fellow newsreader has to be birthing partner

The business newsreader was rushed to hospital and gave birth to a baby boy as Sally Nugent helped

A BBC presenter gave birth after her waters broke live on air - with a fellow newsreader having to act as her birthing partner.

Victoria Fritz was reading the business news on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday morning when she went into labour while still on set.

The newsreader - dubbed Britain's all-time sexiest presenter - was then rushed to hospital in Manchester.

But fellow newsreader Sally Nugent, 45, had to step in as her birthing partner after Victoria's husband Dan got stuck in traffic on the M6.

Victoria gave birth to a baby boy, who is yet to be named, at St Mary's Hospital.

The new mum tweeted that the delivery was a "BBC Breakfast team effort".

She wrote: "My heartfelt thanks to @sallynugent & St Mary's drs&midwives who helped me deliver my little boy yesterday.

"A @BBCBreakfast team effort!"

Sally Nugent replied: "It's going to make a brilliant story for his 21st birthday ! What an incredible day xx."

Victoria, who talked about easyJet's latest figures on Tuesday's show, married husband Dan in July last year in a stunning ceremony in Tuscany.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast this morning, newsreader Naga Munchetty explained why another presenter, Sean Farrington, was reading the business news.

She joked that Victoria had "decided to be even more productive than she is in the workplace".

Naga said: "There she was, you know, just presenting very happily, not an issue in the world.

"And then she decided to have a bit of an event later on."

Co-presenter Dan Walker added: "Sally was reading our sport yesterday.

"Because Victoria's partner was stuck on the M6, Sally was the birthing partner."

He also tweeted: "If you're wondering why @seanfarrington is a late sub today... huge CONGRATULATIONS to @VFritzNews #ItsABoy."

The presenters joked that the new arrival could be named easyJet or Sean and Dan Walker again tweeted, commenting: "Thank you for all your suggestions for baby names but I think Baby McBabyFace might not make the grade @BBCBreakfast."

Victoria has worked for the BBC since 2008 joining from financial commentary site "breakingviews" that is now part of Reuters.
