AirBnB Trips allows hosts to offer intimate ‘experiences’ to their guests

Bed and breakfast app wants to help tourists REALLY enjoy their visit to a stranger's house

IT'S the holiday app which lets you stay in a stranger's home rather than fork out for a pricey hotel.

But now the hosts who rent out their properties have been given the chance to offer guests the sort of benefits old-school travellers could only dream of.

AirBnB has introduced a new function called Trips which lets holidaymakers book private excursions run by locals.

Brian Chesky, Airbnb CEO, said: "Until now, Airbnb has been about homes, today, Airbnb is launching Trips, bringing together where you stay, what you do, and the people you meet all in one place.

"We want to make travel magical again by putting people back at the heart of every trip."

The experiences on offer range from samurai swordplay lessons to classic car driving roadtrips in Malibu.

AirBnb users can now organise their breaks fully on the site's Trips feature which focuses on experiences, places and homes.

Trips launches with around 500 Experiences in 12 cities worldwide, offering handcrafted activities designed and led by local experts.

The app will also produce "Insider Guidebooks" reflecting the recommendations of hundreds of thousands of Airbnb hosts, neighbourhood insiders and local influencers.

So far, 100 of these guidebooks have been produced covering six cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Havana, Nairobi, Detroit and Seoul.

Hosts can recommend their favourite hidden gems in their neighbourhoods, from cafes and restaurants to parks and other local attractions.

AirBnB has also beefed up its identity authentication and travellers will have provide official government ID such as a passport and a simple selfie.
