You could buy your own private island estate off UK’s coast for the same price as a London flat – with its own village

Country estate for sale on the Isle of Skye

YOU could be the proud owner of country estate complete with its own village just off the UK’s coast for the same price of a posh London flat.

The Husaboat Estate, which dates back to the 18th century, is on the northwest end of the Duirinsh Peninsula on the Isle of Skye and covers 2,395 acres of land and includes five miles of coast line.

It could be yours if you have a spare £1.35million.

That’s less than a three-bed flat currently being advertised for sale on Rightmove in central London, part of the City Quarter development in E1, which is for sale for £1.5m.

The Scottish estate was once part of the Macleod Clan's family estate, and the buyer will be central to a number of historic local landmarks and clan history still found across the region.

The property comes with the village of Borreraig, famous for being the location of the MacCrimmon Piping College where pipers were sent from all over Scotland by their clan chiefs to master the bagpipes for several centuries.

Also included is a nine-bedroom, 4,600 square-foot Georgian home in a private coastal setting overlooking Loch Dunvegan.

The property itself, a Grade C listed building, needs completely refurbishing and modernising, but has lots of potential for an owner with time on their hands.

It includes a kitchen-breakfast room, a family room, a dining room, a sitting room, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor.

On the first floor, there’s plenty of space for guests with a bedroom, a bathroom and a drawing room on the first floor.

And if that is not enough, the house has two more bedrooms found on the second floor.

The home is pictured with a walled entrance and gated pillars by the entrance.

It also has a boathouse, so its owner can make full use of the fishing rights included in the price.

The land provides single bank rights on the River Hamara for sea trout and salmon, and deer stalking rights.

Euan MacCrimmon, from Strutt & Parker, said: “The Scottish estate market has been nothing short of spectacular in recent years, but opportunities like the Husabost Estate are rare.

“It's not every day we see island estates come to the market - especially ones that tick such a multitude of boxes.

“The estate offers green investment potential, farming opportunities and the possibility of residential development, but arguably its biggest appeal is the romantic sentiment attached to owning your very own slice of the Isle of Skye.

“With its rugged, dramatic scenery and abundance of wildlife habitats, there's no form of escapism that's quite like the peace and tranquillity on offer there.”

It also comes with its own farm.

Home Farm is 127 acres of farmland along with various farm buildings, a cottage and a derelict church.

There are also a number of derelict buildings that could be converted to residential accommodation, subject to planning permission, including a 19th-century salt store.

Skye is the largest of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides with a population of a little over 10,000.
