We must not let liberal tech firms & governments invent AI rules that suit them

Power struggle

BRITAIN is already a world leader in artificial intelligence. Let us capitalise on that — and not let hysteria about its supposed threats overwhelm us.

True, those risks may be substantial and the voices raising them should not be ignored. But no one really knows.

We must not neuter AI’s mind-boggling potential in an existential panic. Safeguards must be delicately drafted.

The Left already seeks to control what we read, hear, drive and even eat.

We must not let liberal tech giants and governments invent rules that suit them but not ordinary people or businesses.

Rishi Sunak rightly hails AI’s vast power to improve lives or cure disease. We must not tie it up in red tape.

China, for one, will not do so.

Eco maniacs

KEIR Starmer’s dangerous capitulation to the eco mob is nonsensical, and Labour’s justification incoherent.

When Rishi Sunak says it would play into Putin’s hands he is right.

Labour admit we will need oil and gas for decades. Yet it is content to let our North Sea supplies dry up.

What then? Go cap in hand to the Saudis or Russia at vast financial, geopolitical and environmental cost?

Starmer has let Ed Miliband and the protest pillocks dictate his policy.

Since Just Stop Oil are naively ignorant over the energy needs of a major economy, that makes a potential Government equally — and terrifyingly — clueless.

Get building

BRITAIN is systemically incapable of planning and building enough nuclear power plants, reservoirs, homes . . . you name it.

We could build 15 Birminghams in 25 years if massive legal migration levels persist

With MPs oddly proud to block development, it is laughable to think we could throw up 15 Birminghams in 25 years if massive legal migration levels persist.

Maybe 2022’s 606,000 net total WAS a one-off. But even half that would add millions to our population in a decade.

Are the Tories, or Labour, even dimly aware of the infrastructure revolution already needed to accommodate them?

Or the repercussions of doing nothing, and simply asking the nation to suck it up?

A lost cause

FOR years Oxfam has careered down a road to its own ruin.

Now Oxfam apparently demonises JK Rowling for her mainstream, sensible views on women’s rights and trans self-identification

Overrun by woke hard-left activists, the once-noble famine charity began by attacking capitalism — after it delivered the biggest ever cut in global poverty.

Then Oxfam covered up the sex abuse of children by its aid workers. Now it apparently demonises JK Rowling for her mainstream, sensible views on women’s rights and trans self-identification.
