Paul Nuttall accused German Chancellor Angela Merkel of ‘cynically abusing’ the Holocaust ‘as an excuse’ to open Germany’s borders
The new Ukip leader also claimed the UK should build a Donald-Trump style wall to stop migrants getting in

NEW UKIP boss Paul Nuttall once accused German Chancellor Angela Merkel of “cynically abusing” the Holocaust “as an excuse” to open Germany’s borders to migrants.
He also claimed that we should build a Donald Trump style wall to stop Calais migrants getting to Britain.
The controversial comments were unearthed just hours after the North West MEP’s coronation as Nigel Farage’s replacement at the helm of the troubled party.
In January 2014 Mr Nuttall wrote: “I feel sorry for the Germans. They’re a proud country with a great work ethic bit they’ve been hamstrung for years over the Holocaust.
“Thus Mrs Merkel cynically abused that national guilt syndrome as an excuse to usher hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers into the country”.
He repeated the offensive suggestion again the following year in another rant about Mrs Merkel saying a million refugees would be welcome in Europe, writing: “But why did Germany do this?
“My theory is that they hate themselves - or at least, its political leaders do.
“They still suffer from post-war guilt and feel they have to play the good guys because Germany was perpetrator of the Holocaust.”

He added: “But someone should tell this generation of Germans that the war was not their fault and neither was the Holocaust.
Last night Labour MP John Mann blasted the comments, accusing Mr Nuttall of attempting to “rewrite history.”
The Bassetlaw MP added; “This country fought the Nazis and many people died to stop the spread of fascism.”
He recommended that Mr Nuttall “visit Auschwitz to see what the Nazis did and why this country stood up to them.”
Mr Nuttall’s spokesman hit back accusing Labour of being “rattled”, adding: “Many commentators have noted the effect of war guilt on modern German politics.”
They went on: “Paul Nuttall makes clear what a heinous crime against humanity the Holocaust was.
“It is Labour that is playing politics here.”
Asked if the North-West MEP would like to build a wall to keep out immigrants like Donald Trump, he replied “no.”
But in last year he wrote that Calais migrants could be “kept out by a big fence.”
And he cited security measures at music festivals to back up his point, saying: “it is not beyond the wit of man to erect a fence as difficult to scale as the one at Glastonbury.”
He added: “If they can reduce the number of people illegally getting into their festival by putting up a big b----- fence, then why can’t we do the same in Calais? It’s not rocket science.”
All of the comments were made in a weekly column that Mr Nuttall wrote for the Sunday Sport newspaper and he shared pictures of on his website and social media.
