DEATH CRASH RUBBER-NECKER

Cops hunting driver who filmed scene of a crash which killed dad-of-four

Facebook users slam "disgusting" motorist for posting video of pile-up carnage

A RUBBER-necking motorist is being hunted by police after filming the scene of a crash in which a young dad-of-four died.

Qaser Abbas, 37, from Brierfield, Lancs, was killed in a four-car pile-up early on Thursday morning.

A motorist who uploaded footage of the aftermath on Facebook has been criticised by social media users.

The video was accompanied by a post which read: "Such horrific incident (sic).

"My brother-in-law captured the scene on way to work this morning."

Ironically the post ends with the words. "Please drive carefully."

Online users say the video appears to have been shot by the driver and police say they are now investigating.

Mr Abbas, who leaves behind a wife, three daughters and a son, was declared dead at the scene after the smash on Padiham bypass, off junction 8 of the M65 near Burnley.

He was on his way to work at a bedding factory in Great Harwood when his Volkswagon Polo was in collision with a BMW, Ford Fiesta and a Smart Car shortly after 7.35am.

The dad-of-four crashed just days after a female passenger died when a car she was travelling in failed to stop for police.

In October a hit and run driver fled the scene after knocking down a grandmother and her two grandchildren.

In the video of Mr Abbas' fatal collision, debris can be seen strewn across the carriageway.

The clip clocked up more than 30,000 views before it was taken off-line.

It is not known whether Mr Abbas was in his vehicle at the time the film was shot but a nurse can be seen tending to someone in the car before walking away.

The man, who has not yet been identified, can be heard saying: "Look at the state of that."

The video has sparked outrage with hundreds of Facebook users condemning the onlooker's reckless actions.

Charlotte Parry posted: "Can't believe the extremes people go to get a few likes and shares on Facebook.

"This is somebody's family member.

"They don't want to remember like this, disgusting posting this video."

Samantha Jane Parkinson fumed: "Thank you for showing how fatal this actually was!"

While Mikayla Shaw raged: "You are a disgrace! How anyone could drive past this and use their mobile to film such tragedy is disgusting, then post it on social media, you should be ashamed. People like you on their phones cause scenes like this every day."

And Nigel Gotts said: "It's the job of the police to inform the relatives of people involved in road accidents, not some bloody idiot with a mobile phone posting on here."

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "We are aware of the footage and are making enquiries to identify the driver."

The 57-year-old driver of the Ford suffered serious chest and arm injuries and was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital.

The BMW driver, a 32-year-old woman, was cut free by firefighters.

She suffered chest and hip injuries.

A woman driving the Smart Car suffered minor head injuries.

The busy road, linking Hapton and Padiham, was shut for nine hours while an investigation was carried out.

Coun Mohammed Iqbal, leader of Pendle Council, described Mr Abbas as a "devoted family man."

A post-mortem examination was carried out on Friday and his funeral took place at his local mosque in Brierfield before his body was repatriated to Pakistan for burial.

Sgt Andy Walton, of Lancashire Police, said: "These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this difficult time. We are appealing for information and would be keen to speak to anyone who saw the black Volkswagon or any of the vehicles reported prior to the collision."

"We are also advising motorists to drive carefully in the area in the coming days. While the road has been cleared of debris and heavily gritted, it is possible oil could be on the road surface. Please take extra care when driving."

Anyone with information is urged to call 101, quoting log reference LC-20161201-0193.
