Research has found hop-heavy pints ease the pain

DRINKING trendy beers is the best way to avoid festive hangovers, experts say.
Hop-heavy pints like pale ales, IPAs and pilsner-style lagers all ease morning-after pain.
German scientists discovered the hops used to flavour and preserve such beers help reduce the production of toxins and harmful fats in the liver.
Levels were far lower compared to tests on hard spirits like whisky. Some of these toxins have been found to cause headaches.
Dr Ina Bergheim, of the Friedrich Schiller University, said: “Fermented beverages like beer may be less harmful than hard spirits. Data suggests that hops in beer might contribute to this.”
The team gave mice different beers to study the impact on organs.
Those fed beer with hops had less build-up of fat in their liver, making it easier to clear toxins from the blood. Nutritionist Kathryn O’Sullivan said: “Beer in moderation may have less harmful effects.”
Dr Bergheim now plans to look at the effects hops might have on long term liver damage caused by regular boozing.
A spokesman for the British Beer & Pub Association said: “For centuries, we’ve been discovering great things about hops.
We now know they contain flavenoids, which may help reduce the risk of cancer, diabetes, obesity, and help with cholesterol.
