NESTLED on a patch of land between a reclusive beach and a jungle labyrinth sits an eerie abandoned hotel destroyed by hurricanes.
With rotting animal carcasses and crumbling pools, Club Maeva Tulum, Mexico, is a shadow of its former self.

Once a bustling "paradise" holiday hotspot, the luxurious resort has now been left to fester and rot as nature reclaims its territory.
In its prime the Club Maeva Tulum had numerous positive reviews from guests who spent hours lounging by the expansive pool and eating outstanding food and drink.
But then disaster struck in 2005 when hurricane Emily launched an attack, shattering glass and sending bricks flying.
Although it was a second hurricane - dubbed Wilma - that dealt a final devastating blow.

Wilma tore through each building piece by piece until there was barely anything left but foundations.
The storm was unrelenting and didn't stop until the damage to the resort was irreparable.
Now, eerie photos show what has become of the deserted land.
The resort has been mercilessly gutted by looters and graffiti artists meaning only the bare-bones remain.

Cables have been ripped from the walls, electric wires taken and even the contents of the first aid kit has been lifted by opportunists.
Festering crumbling pools now replace the crystal clear waters Club Maeva Tulum used to offer and rotting animal corpses litter the once pristine pathways.
The peaceful jungle garden is now an unkempt, uninviting forest and one large hall is littered with so many debris that its difficult to make out the floor.
Even the framework of the buildings is collapsing and one property once a vibrant and captivating pink, is now a faded and dirty eyesore.
After the hurricanes, the property, located about 9km south of Xcaret, was sold to the Palace Group - a holiday company.
According to forums on Tripadvisor, they are in a dispute with the Mexican government over the land.
A tourist who recently visited the ruins said: "It’s an eerie feeling being in an abandoned resort."
Visitors of the resort when it was in its prime are devastated by what its become.
One wrote to : "This is awful. I was there in 05 and it was absolutely beautiful. Everything about it was great and I loved the small resort vibe.
"And after being to a few beaches in the Mayan, this one was the BEST. White fine sand….just gorgeous. I would have loved to go back there…it’s so sad that it was left to rot.
"Such a waste."
Another said: "I have very fond memories of staying at this resort. It was the first Mexican resort my husband and I stayed at.
"Love this area. The pictures are eerie and I feel like I would if viewing the Titanic, although this place was not opulent.
"Thanks for putting this blog together. I was introduced to Pozole here. I also remember a Spanish youth tennis players were staying at the resort. Awesome beach of bleached white, powdery sand."
