NOTTINGHAM triple-killer Valdo Calocane was booted out of university halls for attacking a flatmate - just because he asked him to CLEAN-UP.

Video shows Valdo Calocane, 31 - nicknamed "serial killer" - holding Chris Young in a headlock just a year before the rampage left three dead.

Pals told how the violence broke out when mature student Calocane snapped at being asked to pick up dirty washing at the apartment.

The clip shows panicked Chris begging for room mates to “call police” and screaming “Valdo, get off me” during the attack at Rayleigh Park halls, in March 2022.

Officers attended the scene and escorted Calocane away - before university officials pushed for him to not face prosecution.

Instead the would-be killer was offered mental health support to allow him to finish his mechanical engineering degree, last summer.

Calocane is now facing life in jail after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Prosecutors today accepted his plea - meaning Calocane will not stand trial for murder.

The triple killer also admitted the attempted murders of Sharon Miller, Marcin Gawronski and Wayne Birkett, who were injured when they were hit by a van.

It can now be revealed Calocane was reportedly left with a "deep hatred" of students - ending in tragedy with the deaths of Barnaby Webber and Grace Kumar, both 19.

Van driver Ian Coates, 65, was also killed.

A source said: “Everyone in the flat knew Valdo was not right. They nicknamed him ‘serial killer’.

“It sounds so cruel - but the others were all nice guys. They made a real effort to get to know him.

Valdo leaped on Chris and got him in a headlock

“They did all the cleaning and tidying and he just rejected all their offers of friendship.

“There was something about him that just wasn’t right. He barely talked - and when he did he was aggressive and actually pretty terrifying.

“It sounds petty but he never did any housework or cleaning and that drove the others mad. He was obviously really bright - but that didn’t make him above doing his bit.”

The source added: “On the night of the attack Chris snapped because Valdo refused to do any work.

"He shouted at him to pick his dirty stuff off the floor in the communal area.

“He just leaped on Chris and got him in a headlock. He was clearly so angry it was like he was prepared to never let go.

“One of the others filmed it because they needed the proof to show what he was like. They had been trying to tell the university Valdo needed help."

After the attack university bosses persuaded police no charges needed to be brought.

Instead Valdo was given mental health support by the University and told to move out of the apartment block.

He is understood to have been put in accommodation elsewhere before moving to the raided house on Ilkeston Road after completing his degree.

Police should have charged him with something

The source said: “Chris was stunned when the university let Valdo complete his degree.

"You would usually be stripped of your honours for something like that.

"And perhaps the police should have charged him with something.

“Maybe if they had taken those early signs of violence seriously he might have been on their radar.

“Maybe those three tragic deaths could have been avoided.”
