London put on lock down after suspicious package found near Tower Bridge
Police were called to the scene shortly after 5pm this evening

POLICE put part of central London on lock down this evening after reports of a suspicious package near Tower Bridge.
Road closures were put in place as cops dealt with the incident.
An eyewitness told Sun Online: "There was a heavy police presence just north of Tower Bridge and they blocked off East Smithfield."
A police spokesman confirmed the "security alert" and said: "We were called to reports of a suspicious item."
It is understood cops were called shortly after 5pm this afternoon.

The package was found to be non suspicious and all roads were reopened by 18.30.
A police spokesman confirmed all officers had been "stood down".
