Officers said they were supposed to be picked up by family members at a specific time and place, but the girls did not turn up.

Multiple agencies joined the search for the girls on Monday and Tuesday including a dog unit and a dive team.

Delphi Police Chief Steve Mullin said he’ll leave it up to the community to decide how they react to the incident.

"I think people are smart enough in our community to draw their own conclusions about what they should feel and what they shouldn’t feel," he told Fox59.

"Our people are very smart, and it’s a very good community, and they’re very strong, and they’re able to draw their own conclusions about this whole situation quite successfully."

The Delphi Community Schools Corporation sent students home with a letter saying the bodies found were two of their missing middle school students.

It read: "It is with heavy hearts that the school corporation day comes to an end. It is our understanding that the two bodies found today were those of our two missing Delphi Community Middle School students."
