DONALD Trump has said his first debate against Kamala Harris was a three-on-one attack after viewers slammed the moderators for criticizing the former president on the air.

Trump and Harris met face-to-face for the very first time ever on Tuesday night for the second presidential debate, which featured no studio audience and only the candidates and hosts in the room.

They clashed on issues such as abortion, the economy, Israel, and even their rally crowd sizes while being overseen by ABC's David Muir and Linsey Davis.

While discussing the economy, Trump branded Harris a "Marxist" while she grinned beside him.

Trump's team and viewers argued on social media that moderators Muir and Davis had ganged up on the former president after repeatedly fact-checking him during his face-off with Harris on Tuesday night.

After the debate, Trump was quick to hop on Truth Social his thoughts on his performance.

"I thought that was my best Debate, EVER, especially since it was THREE ON ONE!" he wrote.

"I anticipated that," Trump also told Fox News' Sean Hannity just moments after he left the stage.

"We had a lot of negative stuff. They had 100% positive coverage on ABC and I had 94% negative."

David Bossie, a Trump ally, echoed Trump's thoughts, saying he faced more aggressive fact-checking than Harris.

"It was a three-on-one debate, let's be honest," he told .

New York Representative Elise Stefanik said the former president delivered a "powerful America First message" during the debate.

"The ABC moderators were not journalists, they were pro-Kamala activists who baselessly attacked President Trump leading to a 3 on 1 debate, while allowing Kamala to lie repeatedly.

"President Trump won overwhelmingly and will win again on Election Day."

Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called the debate an "unprecedented" event in American history.

"I think David Muir as a moderator was particularly disgraceful," said Ramaswamy.

Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, also described the debate as "three on one."

"It was sort of what we expected," she said.

"Kamala Harris got up there, she lied. She brought up Project 2025 not just once but multiple times.

"Knowing full well that's something Donald Trump has disavowed."

Elon Musk, who has been vocal in his support for Trump, admitted that Harris has "exceeded expectations," but agreed with the Trump campaign claim that the debate hosts weren't "fair" to him.

Writing on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, billionaire Musk wrote: "While I don't think the debate hosts were fair to [Trump], [Harris] exceeded most people's expectations tonight."

But he added: "When it comes to getting things done, not just saying nice-sounding words, I strongly believe that Trump will do a far better job."

In a separate post, he claimed humans would "never reach Mars if Kamala wins."

Former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard repeated Lara Trump's "three vs one" claim, accusing the moderators of "clearly shilling for Kamala Harris."

  • Vice President Harris tried to get under Trump's skin by bringing up his ties to Project 2025, his criminal conviction in New York, his rally crowd sizes, and the various indictments he's facing.
  • Trump went off script when he repeated wild conspiracies about immigrants eating dogs and cats in Springfield, Ohio.
  • "They're eating the cats. They're eating the pets of the people that live there," Trump said as Harris laughed and shook her head.
  • In one instance, Trump seemingly threw his running mate, , under the bus and blamed him for miscommunication about his stance on a national abortion ban.
  • Despite his subpar moments, Trump dubbed his performance "his best debate ever."
  • A Harris spokesperson called for a second debate in October.

"Didn't realize @DavidMuir was actually the Democratic nominee," one viewer joked on X during the debate.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald said Harris could "relax" while onstage because the moderators were "handling the debate for her."

"David Muir is criticizing and attacking Trump more than Kamala is," Greenwald.

HARRY COLE: Both landed blows - but race is still too close to call

By HARRY COLE, Political Editor

AFTER a slow start from both candidates, it was only once Harris began prodding and poking at the size of Trump's rallies, that he went on the attack. Jibes about issues that hit close to home, such as his wealth, his inheritance from his father, and his businesses that the old Don of 2016 came out of his shell.

Trumpy was clearly angry. He got more orange. He got more aggressive. He hit out over taxes, illegal migrants, and eating cats and dogs.

This debate was about two camps talking mainly to their bases. As elections are largely decided on who can get their supporters out to vote, this decision to address mostly those who have already made their minds up made sense.

Harris had some particularly strong moments on abortion and healthcare - issues she already has a lead on over Trump. But she was much weaker on the economy - an area her opponent will look to bash her on.

For someone who's been in power for four years as Vice President to not be able to defend the record is a major weakness for Harris.

She dodged questions on inflation and cost of living before Trump really went on the attack.

He tried to link everything back to immigration and fracking - two of the biggest issues for the former President.

In key swing states that Trump needs to win, such as Pennsylvania, fracking is a big issue, and Kamala Harris' record on that is dubious at best.

She's saying the right things now but there wasn't a real knockout blow on either side, the bar was lower for Harris.

Biden's VP needed to prove that she could handle the debate with no notes, no scripts, and no soundbite moments - without a prompt or soft-soap interviewer to help her.

Throughout the campaign, Harris has been kept on a very tight leash, restricting her media appearances as much as possible.

Frankly, she cleared that low bar.

On the money markets, Trump started out ahead of Harris on the Betfair exchange, but by the end, his Democratic challenger had a slight edge.

November's election is still on a knife edge but Harris is gaining on Trump in the betting markets.

Trump had a very strong closing statement, hitting all his key points on immigration, Biden, the economy, and national security. But this thrilling race is still too close to call.

UNFAIR FACT-CHECKING

Viewers said Muir and Davis were quick to fact-check Trump on his statements but didn't give the same energy when Harris made incorrect statements on Trump's views regarding IVF.

Harris said that Trump was against in vitro fertilization, however, the former president was quick to say that he has spoken out in favor of the procedure when it faced bans at the state level.

"ABC is making a huge mistake trying to fact-check this live," former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer.

"They’re only proving how biased they are. Harris fabricated an attack on Trump over IVF. ABC sat there and said nothing."

Another viewer called out the network for not fact-checking Harris when she spoke of Trump's supposed support for Project 2025 - which he has routinely denied being involved with.

"The moderators didn't fact-check Kamala Harris on Project 2025. The moderators didn't fact-check Kamala Harris on IVF," author Abigail Shrier.

"They just fact-checked Trump for the fourth time."

DAVID MUIR V DONALD TRUMP

David Muir and Donald Trump's history dates back to 2016 when the former president was merely a candidate going head-to-head with Hillary Clinton.

Trump has been public about his feelings toward ABC, however, he has shown favor toward Muir.

In 2016, Trump had refused interview with ABC, but when Clinton and her running mate Tim Kaine agreed to speak with Muir, the former president changed his mind.

"If it's David Muir, I wanna do it," Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway recalled the 78-year-old saying to .

Ultimately, Muir interviewed Trump and Mike Pence on a private plane at the Canfield County Fairgrounds.

"David Muir seems like central casting to Donald Trump," Conway said.

She also mentioned hearing Trump making a remark about Muir, calling him "handsome."

Additionally, multiple ABC News staffers have told the outlet that Trump likes Muir due to his dominance in ratings.

"Trump likes people who are number one in the ratings, and David’s number one," said an ABC News reporter.

Muir also was able to land the first televised interview with the former president after he won the election.

In 2020, the 50-year-old moderator secured the first TV interview with Trump during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement on the anchor, an ABC News spokesperson called him "prolific."

"David Muir is one of the most prolific, trusted and highly respected journalists in America—he is tough, but fair which is why ABC World News Tonight has been the most watched newscast for nearly a decade," they said.

"His work speaks for itself."

Meanwhile, Trump had a back-and-forth with Muir after the former president repeated bizarre conspiracy theories about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield, , after being asked about border security.

"In Springfield, they're eating the dogs, the people that came in," Trump said when asked about immigration policies during the  administration.

"They're eating the cats. They're eating the pets of the people that live there."

Harris laughed and shook her head as Trump continued his rant.

Muir, quickly fact-checked Trump, saying the city manager in Springfield determined there were "no credible reports" of migrants harming pets in the city.

When Harris' mic turned back on, she said, "Talk about extreme."

Harris-Trump debate recap

What’s Happened

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris squared off in their first face-to-face debate on September 10 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. The showdown marked Harris’ first as Democratic nominee and Trump’s first since the fateful June 27 matchup with Biden that proved to be the catalyst for the current president ending his re-election campaign.

Why It Matters

The two quickly began sparring on policy points like the economy, abortion, January 6, the Israel–Hamas War, and the border. But several moments from the debate stood out above the rest.

  • As the two presidential candidates entered to start the evening, Harris strode across the stage to shake hands with Trump, introducing herself and saying, “Let’s have a good debate.”
  • Trump threw shade at Harris with his ‘I’m speaking’ impression and appeared to largely avoid looking at her throughout the evening.
  • The ex-president continued to double down on conspiracy theories about immigrants eating cats and dogs in America.
  • He went on to insist he 'doesn't care' if Harris is Black after his previous public comments about her race.
  • And he branded her a “Marxist” in a fiery exchange over the economy.

Go Deeper

Harris came out swinging, repeating the phrase “I’m the only person on this stage who,” followed by different talking points, multiple times. She doubled down on her position on fracking, insisting she will not instate a ban. The VP hammered home her points about abortion and plans to reinstate Roe V Wade if elected, further challenging Trump on the topic.

Yet Trump clapped back in his closing remarks by asking why in her nearly four years in office, Harris hasn’t done any of the things she talked about during the debate. He slammed her record and called her the “worst vice president in the history of our country.”

Earlier in the debate meanwhile, Trump refused to answer whether or not he would support a national abortion ban. He slammed VP stances on several topics.

The two also butted heads on their campaign rallies, with Harris insisting that Trump’s attendees leave early out of boredom while he said she buses in and pays people for hers.

Trump has since criticized the debate host, ABC, and its moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis and accused them of going easy on Harris while attacking him.

His daughter-in-law Lara Trump was also among the Republican voices calling the debate “three on one” after Donald was repeatedly fact-checked by the hosts.

And Now

Both candidates will continue on their respective campaign trails in anticipation of the November 5 election. It is not yet clear if Trump and Harris will face off again. The next scheduled debate will be between vice presidential nominees JD Vance and Tim Walz on October 1.

FINALLY MEET

Harris bolding walked up to Trump to shake his hand and tell him to "have a good debate" as both candidates were welcomed to the stage on Tuesday night.

Trump told her to "have fun" before the pair launched into scathing attacks on each other, covering abortion, immigration, Israel, among other issues.

The former president ripped into Kamala Harris' resume as vice president and criticized the nation's status as being in "serious decline."

He especially lashed out at the vice president during his closing statement saying her work in alongside President has led to being "laughed at all over the world."

"We're a nation that's in serious decline," Trump declared, adding, "We're being laughed at all over the world."

The presidential nominee, 78, attempted to smear Harris' policy promises, saying she failed to get the job done in her three-and-a-half-years as vice president.

"She's going to do this, she's going to do that, she's going to do all these wonderful things. Why hasn't she done it?" Trump said.

"She's been there for three and a half years. They've had three and a half years to fix the border.

"They've had three and a half years to create jobs."

Trump continued, "Why hasn't she done it?

"She should leave right now, go down to that beautiful White House, go to the Capitol, get everyone together, and do the things she says she wants to do.

"She hasn't done it, and she won't do it because she believes in things that the American people don't believe in."

Meanwhile, Harris affirmed the country is looking to turn the page on the past and look towards a different future.

"So, I think you've heard tonight two very different visions for our country, one that is focused on the future, and the other that is focused on the past and an attempt to take us backward," Harris said during her closing statement.

"But we're not going back, and I do believe that the American people know we all have so much more in common than what separates us, and we can chart a new way forward, and a vision of that includes having a plan, understanding the aspirations, the dreams, the hopes, the ambition of the American people."

Harris concluded, "I intend to be a president for all Americans and focus on what we can do over the next 10 and 20 years to build back up our country by investing right now in you, the American people."

SECOND DEBATE

The Harris campaign has called for a second debate, but Trump has not yet confirmed interest.

"She wants to do another one because she got beaten tonight," he told Hannity.

"We'll think about it."

Harris' campaign called for a second debate less than an hour after the conclusion of Tuesday's showdown.

"Under the bright lights, the American people got to see the choice they will face this fall at the ballot box: between moving forward with Kamala Harris or going backward with Trump," Jen O’Malley Dillon, Harris' campaign chair, said in a statement.

"That's what they saw tonight and what they should see at a second debate in October. Vice President Kamala Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?"

Harris's campaign team slammed Trump as being "totally incoherent, angry, and rattled" throughout the 90-minute debate.

Trump had previously agreed to two separate debates, one from NBC News on September 25 and another from .

"[Trump] has already accepted an NBC debate and a Fox debate. It's Kamala Harris who hadn't accepted prior debates," a Trump campaign adviser told the .

However, less than two months before the November 5 election, it's unclear if a second debate will take place.

Hours after the conclusion of Tuesday's debate, Fox News reaffirmed its status to host a second presidential showdown between Trump and Harris.

CBS News is set to host the vice presidential showdown between JD Vance and Tim Walz on October 1.

CLAWS OUT

Immediately following the debate, pop superstar Taylor Swift endorsed Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz.

"Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most," Swift  with her over 280 million followers on .

"As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country."

The singer also addressed fake AI posts that claimed she had endorsed Trump's campaign.

"Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site,"  said.

"It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation.

"It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.
