COPS probing the brutal carjacking of boxing legend Michael Watson have released footage of a Mercedes seen tailing him in the moments leading up to the chilling attack.

It saw the former middleweight champ have a “noxious substance” sprayed in his face before he was dragged for 300 metres while half hanging out of a VW Golf driven by a pal.

The attack took place in Chingford, Essex following a minor collision with the white Mercedes, which is thought to have been an e or c class model.

Footage sees Watson’s car being followed by the luxury vehicle in The Ridgeway in the moments prior to the prang.

Superintendent Paul Clements of Waltham Forest borough said: “I would reiterate our appeal for information relating to this investigation, including to trace the white Mercedes car involved.

"I am particularly keen for any information about where the car went after it turned into Kings Road.

"I would like to praise the courage of both victims in the weeks following this traumatic attack.

"Anyone who has information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact police at the earliest opportunity."

The suspects are described as two black men wearing dark clothing.

Watson was travelling with his carer Lennard Ballack when they were targeted on the afternoon of February 16.

He described the suspected carjacking attempt as “a very frightening, violent situation”.

The 51-year-old – who was left partially disabled after near-fatal brain injury in his fight with Chris Eubank in 1991 – had to be taken to hospital alongside Lennard.

He spent two nights there.

Watson thanked fans for their support, saying: “I am overwhlemed with all the messages and kindness and I would like to thank everyone for their concern.

“Lennard and I were involved in a very frightening, violent situation which came out of the blue in broad daylight in the middle of the afternoon.

“I am asking the public to help the police in finding these men and bring them to justice.”

He later added on Twitter: “If any one know about People in Essex/East London will know the men behind assault. There needs to be some action thank you.”

The boxing world sent messages of support to the sports star upon hearing reports of the brutal attack.

During his career in the ring Watson fought 30 fights, winning 25 – 21 with KOs.

Watson fought for years to recover from the devastating injuries from his 1991 fight with Eubank, which left him in a 40-day coma.
