SIR Keir Starmer’s new health minister has been blasted for “absurd” comments that people can identify as a llama.

Ashley Dalton has also said she doesn’t believe in “gendered” toilets, argues women can have a willy, and described Brexit voters as short-sighted and stupid.

Her past comments were unearthed on social media as she took over from WhatsApp-scandal MP Andrew Gwynne.

At the weekend, Ms Dalton’s new boss at Labour, Wes Streeting, blasted the NHS for still harbouring woke views, and warned it to “get back to basics”.

Ultra-woke Ms Dalton was once asked if humans can seriously self-ID as llama.

She replied “yes” and that they should be treated with “dignity and respect”.

Ms Dalton demanded women-only toilets be banned, saying: “Personally I think we shouldn’t have gendered bathrooms.”

In 2016 she said anyone with a willy could be a woman, saying: “I guess if you identify as female then you are. With or without associated bits.”

Helen Joyce, at Sex Matters, blasted: “These comments were made at the height of gender-identity insanity. What matters is whether Ashley Dalton now realises they were absurd.

“We hope she quickly makes clear she agrees with her party’s position that single-sex spaces must be protected.

“It would also be good if she clarified she doesn’t think anyone must go along with another person’s pretence to be a llama.”

Reform UK MP Lee Anderson added: “Labour’s biggest strength is their ability to consistently embarrass themselves.

"This backwards ideology not only disrespects and undermines science, but it does a tremendous disservice to natural born women.”

Tory Shadow Women's Minister, Mims Davies, said: "Labour may be trying to pull the wool over eyes of the British public with this new appointment but like most of their decisions, it defies all common sense and shows how hopelessly out of touch they are with ordinary people and their lives.

"Labour seriously need to step up on delivering for voters and particularly on women’s health needs and the care and positive NHS experiences we all need."

Yesterday Labour suspended MP Oliver Ryan over his membership of the same WhatsApp group which led to Mr Gwynne’s axing for wishing an early death on a constituent who complained about bin collections.

Meanwhile, Labour is pushing on with its manifesto pledge to make it easier for trans people to change their legal gender.

Home Office Minister Angela Eagle dismissed reports the plans were being dropped.

She said: “It’s not self ID, it’s a simplification of the system but still requiring there to be a diagnosis of gender dysphoria.”
