The 21-year-old, whose identity is yet to be revealed, was discharged by medics on Sunday having spent three days recovering from a wound to her side.

But claims have emerged that the woman, who was wearing a burqa when police pounced, may have been pregnant.

"She is pregnant," neighbour Sid Ali told the Sunday Times. "You can see [the baby bump] when she's wearing the full [burqa]."

Police swooped on the address in Harlesden Road, NW10, shortly before 7pm on Thursday.

Unnamed sources say she was shot when she didn't obey instructions to freeze after CS gas canisters were thrown into the first floor apartment.

It is thought she was the first female terror suspect to be shot by police in the UK.

In the aftermath she is said by witnesses to have screamed "don't touch my body" at officers giving her first aid.

Scotland Yard said she was arrested on suspicion of preparing a terror attack and was taken from hospital into custody at a south London police station.

The woman joins six others arrested as part of the alleged terror cell operation.

They are:

  • A 21-year-old man arrested near Harlesden Road
  • A 20-year-old woman arrested at the address in Harlesden Road
  • A 43-year-old woman arrested in Kent
  • A 16-year-old boy arrested at the address in Harlesden Road
  • A 28-year-old man arrested at the address in Harlesden Road
  • A 28-year-old woman arrested at the address in Harlesden Road

A police spokesman added: "Searches at the address are ongoing, as well as two further searches at linked addresses elsewhere in London."

The incident is not connected to the arrest in Whitehall earlier that day, where a man was arrested after allegedly carrying a bag filled with knives.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, Senior National Co-ordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, said: "Due to the arrests made, I believe we have contained the threats that they posed.
