Schoolboy, 16, arrested over ‘murder’ of elderly couple killed in horror house fire

A SCHOOLBOY, 16, has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an elderly couple were killed in a horror house fire.

Emergency services were called to a property in Heron Close, Alton, Hampshire, at 4am on Monday, April 14.

Officers found a man in his 90s, and a woman in her 80s, inside the home.

The pair were tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A 16-year-old boy, from Alton, has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in police custody while investigations continue.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “An investigation is under way alongside Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fire and establish the circumstances of what took place.

“As part of our investigation, officers have arrested a 16-year-old boy from Alton on suspicion of murder.

"He remains in police custody at this time.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have information that could assist with our inquiries.

“Did you witness anyone behaving suspiciously in the area between midnight and 5am?

“Do you have any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage which may show anyone behaving suspiciously in the area around this time?”
