An investigating source told The Sun: "The male attacker went up to a second floor classroom at around midday, and stabbed another student to death.

"He then went downstairs to another classroom, and attacked another three teenagers with a knife, leaving them severely wounded."

Cops confirmed the teen was quickly overpowered by teachers just as police arrived to arrest him.

Just hours earlier, an anonymous email is said to have gone around the school speaking of a "revolt".

The manifesto, reportedly seen by French media outlet Le Parisien, blasted eco issues.

Officials are investigating whether the emails are linked to the attack.

When armed cops arrived at the scene, the attacker reportedly shouted "shoot me in the head" before being handcuffed and taken away.

The killer was dressed in black and wore a bicycle helmet with a balaclava hiding his face, the investigating source added.

Two knives were reportedly found next to him when he was detained.

Dozens of officers, ambulances and emergency crews rushed to the school to help those injured.

The school was evacuated as armed police flooded the area and secured off the area outside of the school as they continue on with their investigations.

French military personnel from the Sentinelle Operation later also arrived at the high school.

Neither the attacker or any of his victims have been identified.

Officials don't believe the attack was terror related with the teen not being on any police or intelligence radars.

It is still unclear if the student attended the school.

A shocked student at the school told Ouest-France news outlet: "We left our classroom at around 1pm and saw a lot of students crying. We didn't understand why."

A second added: "When we found out we were shocked. We didn't think this could happen in our high school."

A psychological support unit has been set up for pupils.

Nantes prosecutors have also said the attacker is "undergoing a psychological evaluation" as part of their ongoing criminal enquiry.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau is expected to arrive at the scene later this afternoon.

Former French prime minister turned education minister Elisabeth Borne also announced she was heading to the school.

She said via X: "A knife attack took place this afternoon at a private school in Nantes.

"I am going there with @BrunoRetailleau to express my solidarity with the victims and my support for the educational community."
