‘Heaven gains little angel’ after ‘precious’ boy, 4, dies in swimming pool incident on holiday in Spain as tributes paid
A "PRECIOUS" four-year-old boy who died on holiday is set to be laid to rest.
Edward James Watson Massey passed away following an incident at a swimming pool in Tenerife, Spain, just before 5pm local time on Thursday, May 22.
The child, from the Seaforde area in Co Down, died in the devastating accident in San Miguel de Abona, on the southern coast of the largest of the Canary Islands.
Spanish TV channel Telecinco reported the lad had to be rescued from a hotel pool by a lifeguard, but had gone into cardiac arrest.
Emergency services were despatched and a nurse gave instructions over the phone on how to find a defibrillator in the area.
First responders and people who identified themselves as doctors carried out resuscitation manoeuvres.
Despite ambulances and a medical helicopter being deployed to the scene, the boy passed away.
Edward's funeral notice reads: "Precious son of Richard and Joanne. Loving brother and best friend of Victoria.
"Funeral arrangements to follow.
"Edward will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all his friends and family circle.

One person online said Edward was a "a bubbly little boy whom his wee class mates at Cubs will really miss".

They added: "Heaven has gained a beautiful wee soul.
"Praying for Richard, Joanne, little Victoria and the wider Massey and Watson families as you come to terms with this unimaginable pain of loss."
Another said: "Heartbreaking, devastating news. My thoughts and prayers are with dear Joanne, Richard and darling wee Victoria and extended Watson and Massey families. Sincere condolences for this precious beautiful little boy."
Someone else said: "So sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers with the whole family during this devastating time. His little classmates in preschool will miss him so much."
Another person added: "Deepest sympathy and condolences to the entire family at this very sad and difficult time. My thoughts are with Joanne, Richard and little Victoria. Heaven's gained the most precious little angel."
