JK Rowling launches Twitter attack on writer who branded Theresa May a ‘w***e’ after burning copies of The Sun
The Harry Potter author unfollowed John Niven following his remark, before publicly shaming him in spectacular social media rant

JK ROWLING launched a Twitter tirade on a man who burnt copies of The Sun and then followed it up by calling Theresa May a wh*re.
The Harry Potter author sent out a string of 14 tweets slamming fellow writer John Niven.
Scottish author, John, was instrumental in starting a trend of burning copies of the election day newspaper and sharing photos of that on social media.
On Twitter he wrote: “I’m not given to self-congratulation, but, my decision to burn a couple of dozen newspapers was solely responsible for derailing the Tories.”
Then, a few hours later, he called Theresa May a “wh*re” prompting JK Rowling to not only unfollow him but to also publicly shame him.
She said: “Just unfollowed a man whom I thought was smart and funny, because he called Theresa May a wh*re.
“If you can’t disagree with a woman without reaching for all those filthy old insults, screw you and your politics.
“I’m sick of ‘liberal’ men whose mask slips every time a woman displeases them, who reach immediately for crude and humiliating words associated with femaleness, act like old-school misogynists and then preen themselves as though they’ve been brave.
“When you do this, Mr Liberal Cool Guy, you ally yourself, wittingly or not, with the men who send women violent pornographic images and rape threats, who try by every means possible to intimidate women out of politics and public spaces, both real and digital.”

She sent another eight tweets directed at Niven and ended on the line: “You’re a few short steps away from some guy hiding behind a cartoon frog.”
Rowling was widely praised by the Twitter community for her strong words but Niven responded simply with: “My bad”.
