A BODYBUILDER tried to get compensation for a holiday food bug he says left him bedridden, despite Facebook snaps of him eating steaks and knocking back beers.

Leon Roberts, 38, said he was so unwell two days into his trip to Turkey he was confined to his room for the next 19 days.

His solicitors filed a claim against the Turkish hotel and the tour operator Thomson.

Payouts in similar cases average around £3,000.

But investigators found 79 pictures in a photo album uploaded to Facebook days after his return from the trip.

They show him lounging by the pool, posing with pints of lager, and eating steak dinners, sushi and ice cream.

He is also seen on day trips, on a boat ride and at an acrobatic theatre production.

Thomson, who have seen compensation claims rise 1,400 per cent since 2013, rejected his claim and are now considering legal action.

Nick Longman, managing director of Thomson’s parent group TUI, said: “We are concerned by the unprecedented increase in illness claims.

“We have many cases with evidence there was no illness, or where the symptoms or duration are exaggerated.

“Where we identify fraud we will consider prosecution and we will also blacklist customers from taking further holidays with us.”

When questioned about the claim Roberts, of Alvaston, Derbys, said: “My ex-partner dealt with it all. I just had a letter off Thomson.

“I was ill on the holiday but I’m willing to drop the claim as I’m currently in a dispute with my ex-partner and I don’t want the extra stress of it all.”
