HORROR DEATH

Man ‘strangled his partner and wrapped her body in plastic after she left him and started new relationship’

Anthony James Bird had joined the search for missing Tracy - but knew the whole time knew her body was lying in the trailer, a jury has been told

A MAN joined the hunt for his missing partner, despite knowing her naked body was hidden under debris in a trailer after he strangled her to death, a court heard.

Anthony Bird has been accused of murdering Tracy Kearns in a "ruthless" execution after the mother-of-two left him and started a new relationship.

Prosecuting, Ian Unsworth told Mold Crown Court that Bird had attacked Tracy, strangling her to death between May 7 and May 11, before wrapping her body in plastic and hiding it under debris in a trailer.

He said that Bird had hoped her body would have been moved or destroyed in some way before it was found.

He said: "It was a killing that was as contemptuous for her body as it was as ruthless in its execution.

"She would have for ever been regarded as a missing person."

Bird has denied the murder of the 43-year-old but accepted he was responsible for her death.

The court heard that he instead said he had suffered a loss of control.

But Mr Unsworth said that Bird told "lie after lie" as he played along with the missing person's search.

It wasn't until May 13 that police found Tracey's body in a trailer, which had allegedly been placed in Sandy Cove by Bird.

Home Office pathologist Dr Jonathan Medcalf carried out a post mortem examination and Mr Unsworth said his findings that were "entirely consistent with a significant period of forceful neck compression."

Mr Unsworth said: "The overall picture here you may think is of a cold and calculating killing carried out in a ruthless manner by a man who was from start to last, in control."

The trial continues.
