The cash will help pay for specialist nurses and let families with sick kids stay close to hospitals in Homes From Home over the festive period.

Ed, 26, who picked up his MBE at Buckingham Palace yesterday, said: “Please spare a moment to think about the kids and their families who are affected by cancer this Christmas — and kindly give what you can to the Smiles At Christmas campaign.”

Donating is easy via text, online, over the phone or by post with a cheque and collection buckets are in every JD Wetherspoon pub in the country.

X Factor winners Rak-Su support the campaign too. The lads said: “The stories of the kids and their families coping with cancer this Christmas are incredibly moving and humbling. Please donate to SmilesAt Christmas.”

Telly’s Jake Humphrey, a dad of two, said: “I count my blessings every day that my children are happy and healthy.

Not every parent can say that. Childhood cancer is a fight we must all join, so please do all you can to support the Smiles At Christmas appeal for CLIC Sargent.
