Lembit Opik ‘devastated’ after ex moves back to Bulgaria with baby daughter after affair claims
FORMER MP Lembit Opik is "devastated" after his ex-girlfriend moved back to her native Bulgaria with their baby daughter.
Lawyer Sabina Vankova, 33, made the heartbreaking decision after accusing him of an affair with George Best's widow Alex, 45.
A friend said: "Sabina has simply had enough of Lembit.
"She needs the support of her family so she's moved back to Bulgaria to build a new life for herself.
"Lembit is devastated, but she has agreed to let him fly out to visit his daughter over Christmas and New Year."
Sabina said: "He's always claimed they were just friends but I have had my suspicions.
"This picture shows their friendship has crossed a line."
Sabina flew home to the Bulgarian capital Sofia last Thursday.
The friend added: "Relations between them have become increasingly strained in the last few weeks.
"She feels she can't live her life in London any more and wants to start again back home.
"It will be difficult for Lembit but she says he was hardly ever there anyway."
The couple celebrated the birth of their first daughter - Angelina - in June.
Sabina said: "Yes it's true, I’ve flown back to Bulgaria.
"I need the support of my family around me. I wasn’t getting that in London.
"Lembit is flying out to visit over Christmas and we’ll take things from there."
Opik, 52, who previously dated Cheeky Girl Gabriela Irimia, said he met property lawyer Sabina in July 2015 at a party to celebrate Tim Farron’s election as Lib Dem leader.
Opik, who lost his seat of Montgmeryshire in Wales at the 2010 election, has frequently hit the headlines for his high-profile love life.
He also dated weather presenter Sian Lloyd for four years.
Sabina had recently claimed that Opik was "unfit to look after their daughter" Angelina because of his drinking habits.
She posted a series of barbed tweets aimed at publicly embarrassing her partner.
Lembit, who appeared on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, is now a presenter on BBC Radio Kent and regularly talks about his child.
