Ed Sheeran’s sleepy English country village home – where the multi-millionaire pops in his local boozer for a pint

WHEN superstars start snapping up countryside properties it can often put local noses out of joint.
But that’s not the case with Ed Sheeran.
Residents in the sleepy Suffolk village he is quietly transforming have described him as “the most down to earth guy you can imagine”.
The hitmaker was revealed this week to have created his own quirky country estate by snapping up FOUR houses next door to each other in a development, which has been unofficially dubbed Sheeran-ville.
Ed, 26, who announced his engagement to Cherry Seaborn, 25, last weekend is believed to be planning to spend more time than ever at his Suffolk base.
One neighbour said: “Ed is the most down to earth guy you can imagine. He always has time to say hello.
“This is a lovely, peaceful part of the world and he fits in just fine. Nobody is bothered by his fame and fortune.
“We do not see that much of him because he has been all over the world so much for the last few years.
“But he has told some people that he wants to make his base here. I guess that is more likely than ever now he is settling down and getting married.”
Sheeran, who is worth around £40million, has carried out a string of improvements in the grounds on his mini estate, building a treehouse, a trendy pod and an indoor swimming pool.
He also has his own pub complete with urinals in a converted barn and has plans for an underground cinema and music room connected to his house by a tunnel.
Peter Archard who lives in the village, said: “He is well known in the area because he was born and bred here – but I think he is rarely seen.
“I drive past his place every day, but I have never seen him. He is abroad quite a lot like any other celebrity.
“I am not at all surprised that he has bought all the properties next door. It has created a buffer zone around his main house and given him more privacy.
“I don’t blame him for doing that at all.”
Sheeran occasionally pops out for a drink at the gastro-pub in the centre of the village which is renowned for its food.
The pub manager said: “I have served him twice. Nobody batted an eyelid when he came in. He is just one of the locals.”
The village which is known for its historic homes also has a 14th century church, a primary school, a village hall and sports field.
While the village no longer has its own football or cricket teams, there is a communal tennis court and locals play badminton in the hall.
Village hall chairman James Maberly said: “We have not seen Ed here. I think he is just too busy and that is it.”
Sheeran has often spoken of his love for his roots in Suffolk.
His parents still live in the town and Sheeran has been known to take celebrity pals on visits.
He was spotted with country star Taylor Swift in The Station pub in Framlingham in December 2013 and returned with former X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger in July 2015.
Land Registry records show that he bought his main home – a large modern detached farmhouse and surrounding - land for £895,000 in June 2012.
He also snapped up a 16th century Grade Two listed timber-framed house next door for £450,000 at around the same time.
He then bought the four bedroom detached house in front of his farmhouse for £925,000 in September 2016.
He splashed out on his fourth Suffolk property last October when he bought the bungalow on the other side of his driveway for £525,000.
His first major improvement to his farmhouse was a giant treehouse on a raised platform with decking to give him a beautiful view of the Suffolk countryside.
This treehouse has a living room, a study and a TV audio visual room, all of them timber clad and interconnected with separate conical roofs.

He went on install an open air hot tub, decking and a trendy pod made of cedar weatherboarding in his garden, using it as a recording studio and home office.
High fences and gates now screen his four houses where teams of builders have been hard at work in recent months.
Planning documents reveal how his latest project is to have an underground cinema and music room, connected to his main house by a six foot wide tunnel.
