HE may be next in line to the throne but Prince Charles was given a run for his money when a dog refused to give up a microphone.

His Royal Highness was left red-faced when Digby the Dog clamped his teeth down on the mic - with the Prince of Wales forced into a unwilling tug of war.

After managing to pluck the mic from the dog's mouth, Prince Charles mimed throwing the fluffy object off in a light-hearted game of catch.

As the red-faced royal chuckled with the dog handler, she could be heard saying: "He does like soft toys."

But the royal and the pooch managed to make up, with Prince Charles giving Digby a pat on the head.

The royal was paying a whistle stop tour to the ITV studios to celebrate 30 years of This Morning on air when he made the canine connection.

The 69-year-old heir to the throne was accompanied by Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, as they chatted to hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield.

Mr Schofield must have been prepped for the royal visit - unusually wearing a suit for the occasion.

After a quick whizz around the studios, Prince Charles was able to meet his furry fan - the adorable This Morning pooch Digby.

A hilarious video clip shows how the smartly-dressed Prince has a go wrestling a studio microphone from the Labrador's mouth.

It was useful rehearsal time for dog lover Charles, who then made the acquaintance of Clover and Luna, two further guide dogs in the studio.

The royal couple also met Good Morning Britain's Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

Later, they exchanged a few words with This Morning's Friday presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

This Morning celebrates its 30th anniversary in October this year and kicked off the year-long party with a royal visit.
