Police could be pulled off frontline to crisis in rape cases, Met chief reveals

COPS could be taken off the frontline to tackle the crisis of disclosure in rape cases, the Met Commissioner has said.
Pressure is mounting on police after several sex assault cases collapsed because vital evidence on mobiles was not examined or shared with the defence.
Scotland Yard is currently reviewing 600 cases in the aftermath and Cressida Dick has warned the extra workload could mean moving resources from other policy areas.
She told LBC: “You can’t do something for nothing, so I will have to move resources from another area.”
“What we don’t want are any miscarriages of justice. What we do have is an action plan.
“We will have to put some more resources into that, and I have to ensure that my officers are feeling well trained and well supported and where possible, have the best technology that can support them in this work.”
