Greggs now employing full-time ‘bouncers’ to stop thieves and troublemakers
Guards have been spotted at its main store in Newcastle as well as in Derby, Nottingham, Salford and London

BAKERY chain Greggs is employing bouncers to stop punters pinching sausage rolls and causing trouble.
Several of its shops now have full-time guards on the doors.
They include an outlet a short walk from Millwall’s football ground in Bermondsey, South East London.
A member of staff who welcomed the extra protection claimed: “Every weekend, there’s usually a fight.
“It’s a very small store so people try and steal things. We’ve even had people try and smash the glass.”
Some of Greggs’ 1,700 UK stores now open late at night for clubbers.
Its HQ is in Newcastle, where the city’s main store also has a bouncer.
Other guards have been spotted in Manchester, Nottingham and Derby.
Two branches in Salford were given security following knife raids.
Robert Smith tweeted: “I spent all of my first term at uni insisting to all the southerners that Derby wasn’t in the north. Then on a night out back home, I noticed that the Greggs had a bouncer on the door to stop people getting too rowdy.

“Hmm, okay, maybe those southerners had a point,” I thought.”
Many Greggs now open late at night to accommodate clubbers who’d rather eat a pasty than a kebab on the way home.
A spokeswoman for Greggs said: “All our shops have robust security systems in place which are reviewed regularly on a shop-by-shop basis.”
“Occasionally additional security measures are put in place, including the provision of security guards in shops.”
