He had abused Mr Thompson’s girlfriend, Randa Simpson at the Afrikiko nightclub on the Old Kent Road on 7 August last year, the Old Bailey heard.

Judge Richard Marks told him: "Bad blood existed between you, though I doubt very much whether the true picture emerged during the evidence.

"You were to claim he was a dangerous gang member and attempted to blacken his name but there was not an iota of evidence to substantiate any of the very serious allegations you made against him."

Sister Melissa Blake shouted to Bolt as he sat in the dock: 'I hate you so much!'

Mum Pauline Bovell said: "I have to suppress my feelings and stay strong for my daughters and my grandchildren. His birthday and the first Christmas without him was soul destroying."

Prosecutor Timothy Cray QC said: "It was drunken abuse coming towards her from the defendant about who she was sleeping with – that sort of thing.

''You cannot settle your disputes by stabbing another man to death on the streets of London."

Bolt was arrested on 18 August at an address in Streatham Road that was being used by his family members.

Bolt, of Adelaide Close, Brixton, was convicted of murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
