The bodies of her husband Adelino Figueira, 57, and their sons Claudio, 10, and seven year-old Joaquin were discovered 90 miles away at Birling Gap in East Sussex about an hour earlier.

Scotland Yard last night formally identified the tragic family and said post-mortem examinations had concluded.

Laura died from multiple stab wounds while her husband and two children suffered multiple injuries consistent with falling from height.

Detectives from the Met's murder squad are leading the investigation, alongside Sussex Police, but say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the tragedy on March 5.

Neighbours of the Twickenham had previously spoken out of their horror, with neighbour Alycia Mead, 25, saying: "It was about 6pm and I saw lots of flashing lights and two fire engines parked on the road.

"Then about six police cars, some unmarked, came and the officers were smashing their way through the front door.

"They were struggling but managed to smash through some of the windows and climbed in through the door and then I heard them say 'she is on her own'.

"They were picking their way through the garden and the shed and when I saw forensics I thought it must have been murder.

"I haven't really seen them, I saw Christmas lights go up but that is about it, they were a very quiet family."

A bus driver, who refused to be named, said he saw the family coming out the driveway occasionally.

He said: "It is a shock, they were very nice people, pleasant.

"I saw them quite a few times and you could just tell they were very nice."
