TENSIONS are continuing to escalate between the US and Russia, as leaders from the two nations threaten military retaliation over the recent Syrian chemical attack.
At least 60 civilians were killed after "poisonous chlorine gas" unfolded in the besieged town of Douma on Saturday.
Turkey’s national defence minister Nurettin Canikli has now warned of an impending “World War 3” as tensions mount between the two world powers.
Speaking to Ukraine’s 24TV, Canikli said: “If an attack occurs against the forces in Syria backed by Russia or there is an attack by the US-supported forces, Russia won’t be able to stay away, otherwise it will lose its influence.
“So, serious clashes may start.
"Just one spark may set the entire region on fire and open the door for the conflict.
“So, we are calling on the parties Russia and the US to act with restraint and on the regime of Bashar al-Assad to stop supporting terrorist organisations."
The comments come as Vladimir Putin's envoy vowed Russia would retaliate if Trump’s administration was to launch a missile strike on Syria.
Speaking to Hezbollah's al-Manar TV, Alexander Zasypkin - Russia's ambassador to Lebanon - insisted Russia would strike back against any military action taken by the US.
Donald Trump has today warned Russia to "get ready" for American "smart" missiles heading to Syria, while blasting Putin for partnering with "Gas Killing Animal" Bashar Assad.
