It was revealed the DJ was seen with a drink in his hand as he holidayed on a yacht a day before he died, it has been claimed.

TMZ reports that Avicii, whose real name was Ted Bergling, looked "happy and healthy" as he flashed a peace sign while spending time with friends.

He was said to be staying nearby at the Muscat Hills Resort where he was found dead the next day.

The cause of death is currently unknown, but the DJ had been open about his health struggles in the past.

He shocked fans in 2016 when he announced he would be retiring from touring for the sake of his wellbeing.

Back in 2014, Avicii - real name Tim Bergling - had been forced to cancel a series of gigs so he could recover from having his gallbladder and appendix removed.

He also had  acute pancreatitis - which was in part due to excessive drinking - but he admitted he felt "free" and "happy" after his decision to retire.

It's unclear whether the drink he is holding in the picture, taken a day before his death, is alcoholic.

In the days before he died Avicii had told fans he was preparing for the next stage of his life.

He said in a statement: “We all reach a point in our lives and careers where we understand what matters the most to us.

“For me it’s creating music. That is what I live for, what I feel I was born to do.

“Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music.

“Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.

“The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new. Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do.”

His heartbroken brother David Bergling has reportedly flown  to Oman as the family "search for answers" after the DJ's shock death.

Police said criminality was not suspected.
