A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a one-year-old baby.
Police and paramedics were called to an address in Kettering, Northants, at 9.15am on April 26, after reports of an unresponsive child.
The tot died three days later at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
The 22-year-old remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Stuart Hitchon, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team, said: “The death of a child is truly devastating and we are doing all we can to establish the full circumstances around what has happened here.
“Our team of specially trained officers are offering support to the child’s family and I would ask the media to respect their privacy at this time as they grieve.”
Neighbours living Regent Street where the tragic child was found unresponsive said they heard a woman screaming hysterically in the street.
A worker at a nearby business on Regent Street, who did not want to be named, said: "There was a first response team on the road last Thursday morning.
"There were about two police cars, an ambulance and a first responder. We were told the baby had been killed and that people heard a woman screaming hysterically.
One resident, who did not wish to be named, added: "Everyone keeps themselves to themselves on this road but its not a bad area really.

"I heard a lot of commotion in the street but that's quite normal around here. I heard a woman yelling but I don't know what house they lived in. Its heartbreaking that a baby has died - it doesn't get more tragic than that."
A spokeswoman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 9.06am on 26 April to a private address in Regent Street, Kettering.
"We sent a paramedic in an ambulance car and a crewed ambulance, and one patient was taken to Kettering General Hospital."
