First picture of man stabbed to death in Mitcham street

Investigation is launched into 65th murder in London since the start of the year

THIS is the first picture of the latest victim to die in a fatal knife attack.

Police investigating his death released the picture last night.

Mr Thangarajah, 28, was a Sri Lankan national of no fixed abode.

Police were called to reports of a stabbing in the Upper Green East area of Mitcham in London during the early hours of Sunday at 3.30am.

Paramedics from London Ambulance Service found Mr Thangarajah with stab wounds, but were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.  A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at a police station in London.

Detectives are keen to speak to any witnesses.

The arrest comes just two days after a 20-year-old died from stab wounds on Friday.

Osman Shidane, 20, from West Drayton, was attacked outside an Asda in South Ruislip on Tuesday last week. He was rushed to hospital but tragically died on Friday at 5pm.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Saturday gave cause of death as multiple stab wounds.

A 16-year-old boy from Hillingdon was arrested on Wednesday and on Friday was charged with murder, but cannot be named for legal reasons.

A 15-year-old girl was also arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of assisting an offender, but has since been released without investigation.
