Husband charged with murder of estranged wife Sophie Cavanagh, 31, after she was found dead at home in Bromley

A MAN has been charged with the murder of his estranged wife after she was found dead at their home.

Martin Cavanagh, 35, was arrested over the death of Sophie Cavanagh, 31, in Bromley, South East London.

He appeared at Bromley Magistrates' Court  today and was remanded to appear in custody at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.

After a post-mortem examination a provisional cause of death was given as compression of the neck.

Cops confirmed Cavanagh handed himself into a station on Thursday and was then arrested on suspicion of murder.

A statement read: "Police were appealing for the public's help to find 34-year-old Martin Cavanagh who was sought in connection with the death of the 31-year-old woman.

"He handed himself into a South London police station where he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

"He remains in custody at this time."

London is experiencing a concerning rise in violent crime, with 66 murders in the capital since the start of the year.

This year, London's homicide rate overtook New York, which has around the same population.
