Heartbroken dad left to bring up his three children alone after wife died during Caesarean

Electrician Brett Parry is now raising Ashton, nine, Dolcie-Belle, five and newborn Hudson on his own after Becky suffered a catastrophic cardiac arrest

A GRIEVING father has told of his heartache after his wife died in childbirth - leaving him to raise their three children alone.

Electrician Brett Parry, 32, of Northampton, explained how his wife-of-nine-months, Becky, also 32, was admitted to hospital for a planned C-section, following a text book pregnancy - after having Caesarean deliveries for their two older children.

When baby Hudson was born at Northampton General Hospital - Becky’s workplace since she was 17 - he was first passed to delighted Brett, as she smiled on.

But when the proud dad turned to let her hold her 7lb 1oz son for the first time, he said Becky told him she was struggling to breathe, adding: "She was so pleased to have another little boy. It was such a happy moment – but that changed in just seconds."

As doctors sprang into action, Brett was ushered outside, still holding their tiny baby.

Doctors managed to restart Becky's heart, but she had suffered irreversible brain damage and three days later, Brett had to turn off her life support and take Hudson home to meet their children, Ashton, nine, and Dolcie-Belle, five.

"I still can't believe what has happened," he continued. "Becky was happy, healthy and she loved our kids so much. One minute we were overjoyed to have a new baby and the next minute, she was gone.”

Meeting through friends as teenagers, the couple had been together since they were 16, although they only tied the knot in September 2017.

On June 3, Becky and Brett drove to Northampton General to give birth.

Born at 11.54am, Brett held their little boy for the first time, but was soon ushered out of the room by staff as Becky complained of being unable to breathe.

He said: "I was terrified. It happened so quickly. She had been fine one minute and the next, she was dying.

"She was deprived of oxygen for an hour before they got her heart started again.

"That was just too long. They told me that even if she survived, she would be in a vegetative state.

"They aren't sure why this happened to Becky but they are now investigating to find out the cause of death."

After three days in intensive care, further tests showed that Becky was brain dead and Brett made the heartbreaking decision to turn off the machines keeping her alive.

He added: "We decided not to bring the kids in, as I didn't want their last memory of their mummy to be like that."

Brett, alongside his family and friends said their final goodbyes to Becky at her funeral on June 29, at Northampton's Cathedral Of Our Lady and St Thomas.

"I never thought that I would be burying my wife less than a year after my wedding. I can't describe how difficult it has been," he said.

Friends have set up a Justgiving page for Brett which has already raised over £37,000.
