MEGHAN Markle's dad has confessed to taking drugs while his daughter Meghan was growing up - but claims he hasn't touched them in 20 years.
The Duchess of Sussex's outspoken father made the startling admission as he angrily denied having a drinking problem.
He told the : "I don't do drugs, haven't for more than 20 years" while claiming he only has wine with dinner.
Markle Snr insisted that he doesn't even drink beer despite being photographed with a six pack.
He said: "I regularly buy a six-pack for the guys on the guard gate because they're stuck in a hot shack for hours each day and could use a cold one."
A source close to the Markle family told that Thomas used drugs to cope with the pressures of Hollywood while working as a lighting director.
They said that drug use was "part and parcel" of working in television where the hours were long.
The source said: “After a while, such long hours take their toll and Tom would use drugs that helped him work for longer. Coffee just didn’t cut it.”
While Thomas did not specify which drugs he used to take, his daughter Samantha said that marijuana was a popular drug used in show business at the time.
She said: “My father is upstanding and doesn’t really drink and he doesn’t do recreational drugs.
“But certainly my father has never taken cocaine or any other drugs like that. He didn’t have the mentality for it."
The admission came as he launched an astonishing broadside against the Royal family - and admitted he doesn't care if Prince Harry never speaks to him again.
"They want me to be silent, they want me to just go away. But I won’t be silenced. I refuse to stay quiet.
"Oh, she shows a little shoulder here, a touch of ankle there, but she’s not the Meghan I knew for years. You can even see her wondering whether she’s doing it right every time she crosses her ankles rather than her legs.
"I feel for Meghan, because she does have a difficult family. But it’s still her family."
The broadside comes as Meghan's half-sister Samantha warned her that their dad could "die of sadness" if she doesn't reconcile with him.

He raged: "I tell you, I’ve just about reached my limit on Meghan and the Royal Family. I’m about to unload on them.
"Perhaps it would be easier for Meghan if I died.
"Everybody would be filled with sympathy for her. But I hope we reconcile. I'd hate to die without speaking to Meghan again.
"If Meghan never speaks to me again, I don’t know how I can go on without my heart breaking.
