AN Irish Guards soldier who took a selfie with Prince William has been filmed singing songs about hanging the Pope.
Last night the Army launched an investigation after being handed the footage by The Sun.
In the video, viewed more than 40,000 times on Twitter, the unnamed soldier leads fellow boozed-up squaddies in a singalong mocking Irish hunger strikers.
In one verse he bellows: “And all we need’s a 10ft rope, so we can hang the f***ing Pope.” His off-duty comrades also repeatedly chant: “Hallelujah.”
The footage, filmed at Cavalry Barracks in Hounslow, West London, was posted on social media earlier this year.
The soldier had the honour of sitting next to William at the Irish Guards’ St Patrick’s Day celebrations in 2016 — and even snapped a selfie with him.
Now he risks getting the boot from the Army.
His regiment, nicknamed The Micks, officially guard the Royal Family and recruit across Ireland.
A defence source said: “I am astonished at this.
“The person leading the songs and portraying violence and sectarian hatred was with Prince William on St Patrick’s Day.” It is the latest recent scandal to hit the Irish Guards.
In April The Sun revealed squaddies daubed barracks with graffiti in protest over the treatment of mascot dog Domhnall. Insiders claim the ageing Irish Wolfhound is being worked to his “deathbed”.

An Army spokesman said the video was under investigation.
He added: “Those who have fallen short of the Army’s high standards are dealt with administratively and may face sanctions including dismissal.”
