Police investigating the incident slapped the man with a hefty fine but are yet to charge him following the disturbance on the 17-hour non-stop flight.

Fellow passengers said the man was shouting and swearing before cabin crew and passengers helped to restrain him.

Cops removed the man from the plane who, according to a fellow passenger speaking to became “agitated” and “hyper-aggressive like a cornered animal” having returned to his seat after walking to the toilet.

Clare Hudson, who was travelling on the flight with her husband and three-month-old baby, witnessed the events unfolding.

Speaking to ABC News, she said: “He locked himself in the loo for about an hour.

“Then when he came out, first of all we heard some shouting, we were about three or four rows in front of where it happened.

“Then he was squaring off against another passenger and sort of shouting in his face.

“It looked like it was going to turn into a brawl. Eventually they managed to calm him down and get him back in his seat.

“One of the cabin crew, one of the ladies, I think was a bit upset. But for us, luckily, we were far enough away that we didn’t feel threatened.”

Passenger Christine Kohli said cabin crew asked passengers to help them control the man.

She said: “They did ask for some assistance from some male passengers, and some passengers went and helped him.

“I think the cabin crew were marvellous, they were very in control of the situation, they were calming passengers.”

A 32-year-old man was removed from the flight when the plane returned to Perth, with passengers provided with overnight accommodation.

They eventually left Perth 17 hours after their initial departure time.

A Qantas spokesman said: “We take a zero tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour on board.

“The safety of our crew and customers is our number one priority.”
