When was the attack?

Khalid Masood, 52, carried out the attack on Westminster Bridge on March 21, 2017.

He drove a rented Hyundai Tucson into pedestrians on the bridge before crashing the car into railings outside Parliament.

After crashing the car he got out and ran around the fence and went through Carriage Gate where he stabbed Palmer.

He was eventually shot dead by police in the forecourt of the Palace of Westminster.

When does the inquest start and how long will it last?

The inquest starts on September 10, 2018, and is expected to last up to five weeks.

The Chief Coroner of England and Wales, Mark Lucraft QC will be in charge in Court One of the Old Bailey.

A separate inquest into the death of Khalid Masood will follow afterwards.

The first witness is expected to be the senior detective who led the police investigation.

Lucraft is expected to examine Masood’s background and police records as well as look at his brief appearance in MI5 investigations in 2009 and 2010.

The QC is also expected to look at how well Palmer was protected, both by his body armour and by armed officers serving in Westminster.

A psychologist has also been asked to prepare a “psychological autopsy” in Masood.
