But in an act of defiance bi-sexual Elena Bunbury, who become one of the youngest elected parish councillors when she entered politics last year, has hit back with a message to the trolls.

After speaking out in favour of Brexit on TV, the sporty student had been horrified to find critics had been perving over pictures on her Instagram account and calling her a “stupid slut who should be put down” and a lesbian.

Elena, who has just celebrated her 21st birthday, was targeted after appearing in the audience of BBC’s Question Time.

The West Yorkshire councillor made pro-Brexit comments to the panel including the comment “no deal isn’t a bad deal” and the video clip of her speaking was later tweeted by the Beeb.

Her 2,165 followers were stunned when the Elena, whose hobbies include rock climbing and kayaking, displayed her ripped body on her Twitter Account.

The 5ft tall pocket rocket posted one picture of herself in a red bikini applying fake tan in her university accommodation and another of her a black bikini which was taken on holiday in Cape Verde.

Both pictures had already been raided from her private Instagram account by trolls who were sharing them with vile messages so she decided to put them out herself to “take control of the narrative”.

She posted: “Following my appearance on #bbcqt, the ]#FBPE are sending death threats, labelling me a stupid slut, posting private photos of me and outing me as bisexual online.

“So I thought I’d beat them to it. Enjoy these photos of a stupid slutty Tory bisexual who loves Brexit.”

Many of Elena’s followers, who had only known her through her political work, congratulated her on her amazing body.

She replied: “Thank you! I've had my fair share of online abuse before but this is a new level of grim.”

When asked how she stayed in such great shape she replied: “Ahaha! Rock Climbing, Kayaking and forcing myself to not eat the whole bag of Doritos tbh."

Elena, from Scholes, near Leeds, West Yorkshire, said yesterday: “After Question Time I did not think I had said anything controversial.

“So, I was shocked by the backlash. I started the reading the comments and doing searches under ‘blonde’, ‘woman’ and ‘Brexit’.

“I saw all those nasty hateful things about me. These two photos had been published anonymously."

Elena said: “I got the standard comments saying I was stupid and did not know anything but there were ones saying I should be put down or shot just because I gave a different viewpoint.

“They posted the bikini photos with the message ‘Why should we listen to this slut?” That’s when I thought I needed to do something

“They were also writing I was bisexual which is not something I am ashamed of but did not feel the need to publish.

“So, I decided to take control of the narrative or it would get worse and worse like Chinese whisper.

“It was a difficult thing for me to do but I thought if I ignore so other young women might be targetted.”

Elena stood for Holme Valley Parish Council at a by election and beat the Labour candidate by 229 votes, pushing UKIP into third place with just 56.

She has just graduated with a degree in Adventure Sports Coaching at the University of Central Lancashire but plans to enter politics and is applying for jobs with MPs

Normally, she is photographed at council events in a baggy jumper and jeans and says she is thankful the “relaxed dress code” allows her to dress modestly.

She continued: “It does feel uncomfortable. I am going to the Conservative party conference next week and I hope they don’t say ‘It’s that woman’."

Elena said the astonishing thing was the level of support.

She said: "It has been crazy. It has over 2,000 likes messages it is so nice that so many people are supporting me.

“I thought I was on my own, but people obviously feel this extreme bullying behaviour is not acceptable.”

Elena has now complained to West Yorkshire Police that one of the tweets was a death threat and blocked the sender who has been reported to Twitter.

But she has refused to name the person who sent it, adding: "I don't want to encourage bullying, even if they are vile."

In July it emerged police were investigating violent sexual threats made by a pro-EU extremist to Tory MP and prominent Brexiteer Andrea Jenkyns.

In June it Labour MP Jess Phillips revealed she received 600 rape threats in a single night as she demanded that trolls must reveal their identities to social media firms.

The outspoken MP Jess Phillips told the Cheltenham Science festival she was targeted simply because she talks about women’s issues and she doesn't agree with Jeremy Corbyn.
