A BULLET "went through one boy and lodged in his 14-year-old friend's stomach" in a Birmingham drive-by shooting.
The two teens were stood outside a children Halloween party on Victoria Road, Handsworth, on Friday night when the attacker opened fire.
The bullet pierced the chest of the 15-year-old, narrowly missing his vital organs, before coming out the other side and piercing the stomach of the 14-year-old.
Both remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Detectives are carrying out round the clock enquiries to find whoever fired the gun which includes extensive CCTV analysis being carried within the area.
The shot is believed to have come from someone in a car who then fled the scene.
West Midlands Police, Detective Superintendent Maria Fox said: "We as a police force, and the community as a whole, are absolutely shocked, appalled and outraged that two children have been shot at and seriously injured.
"All gun crime is completely unacceptable but the fact that two teenage boys, who were just out and about enjoying the festivities have suffered pain at the hands of a weapon is even more galling.
"There can be no excuse or justification to shoot towards young people and it makes us all the more determined to catch the coward who did this. I can assure everyone that we won't stop until we bring them to justice.
"We have a number of active lines of enquiry but at this stage we don't believe the boys were deliberately targeted. But that is no solace for them as they recover from their injuries and psychological torment this will have undoubtedly brought.
"I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a car behaving suspiciously between around 8-8.15am; maybe driving slowly or repeatedly seen in the area.
"We believe there were a lot of other vehicles in the area at the time and we need those drivers to come forward - especially if they have dash cam footage."
